On Monday, July 18th, 2023, Bernalillo County officials, delegates, the architectural and construction teams, and members of the local community gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the North Valley Aquatics Center.
The new facility will be located at the Raymond G. Sanchez Community Center, bringing enhanced recreational opportunities to residents of the North Valley.
Local residents expressed their excitement about the project and its impact on the neighborhood. Across the street, longtime community members Lorraine and Robert Abeyta shared their enthusiasm:
“The kids need a place to go play to stay cool. I’ve been bringing my nieces and nephews over here to the splash pad, and they love it,” said Lorraine.
With the ceremonial groundbreaking complete, construction is officially underway, marking the beginning of a project that will provide a valuable recreational and social space for the community.
